About Me

I am Carol (hate my name…. can I change it?), I was born and raised in Kent the UK. I travelled about with work during my 30’s, settled down in my 40’s and am now, in my 50’s unsettling down!

I had a brief stint at being a stay-at-home housewife, without the kids, and looking back, don’t think I appreciated what I had until it went.  I now work for a living, but in my spare time, can’t sit still.  Can’t just watch TV, have to be making something.  My blog started as a rant against a life changing event, but has now settled into a “hey – I just made this” blog (two a penny I know, but if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em).

I’m keeping the old blog here on this site as occasionally I’ll go off at a tangent – I have my drum to bang, but I promise to do it quietly.  Other than that, this blog is for the kids I never had….. take inspiration; do as I say, not as I did; never say never and…… don’t look back.

      1. Hi Steve, although I am on FB, I only use it as a way of communicating with my sister in NZ….. I don’t really “do” FB! Can you just confirm you are “H” of that “other” web site for reformed characters……? Do like to check who I’m talking to.

  1. It is me. I have to confess that when you popped up on the other site I already had an inkling who you were (having dipped in and out of your blog) and also in other research having been aware of your husband’s case.
You truly are a remarkable woman and I have told my wife about you. SHe thinks in time she would like to contact you….she has no one else really to talk to and the thought of talking to someone who had been through a similar experience lit her eyes up.
How do we make contact…..assuming of course you are still willing to as we suggestion on the other site? It was CS from the other site who suggested I try through your blog!
    AGW to you both.

    1. Hi H, been busy today at work (not normally busy hence the frequency of me on other things!) I want to say your wife can call me, but if she is anything like me, she might not be able to talk about it at the moment without bursting into tears. She – or you – can always email me – I think my blog displays my email address, but just in case, I’ll email you, cause I can see your email.
In fact, I’ll carry on this message as an email to you!

  2. Hi Carol
I’m researching a movie about a woman whose husband goes to prison and she has no idea he’s been involved in crime – looking to speak to people who have had similar experiences, in confidence and off the record. It’s for Potboiler Productions who made The Constant Gardener and other award-winning films. Can you contact me if you’re interested? I’d love to speak to you. susannah_price@hotmail.com
    thank you – Susannah Price

  3. Hi Carol . I came across your blog whilst looking up Stanford Hill visits regime, very good and honest take on things.

  4. Hello Carol
You’ll know who I am from my blog. Just wanted to say that I was leafing through my copy of “Woman & Home” in the garden yesterday, and what should I see, but you! A good article – thank you.
    Best wishes from Susan

  5. Ah, thanks Susan – Actually didn’t realise the magazine was out yet! I was asked if I’d like to write an article, my blog pretty much covers everything in much more detail than a 1,400 word article, but the money will go towards me getting a decent bathroom (desperate times calls for desperate measures and all that)!

  6. I am so glad you found my blog and chose to follow it, leading me to find your blog. I look forward to reading your posts and gaining insight from someone who understands what my family has been going through. Thanks so much for sharing your story.

  7. Hi Carol, really interesting blog. Could you possibly me when you get this please? I’m putting together an article which you may be able to help with. it’s ktburnetts at gmail dot com
    Thanks so much
